little bump - daft question?

Little question. Never having damaged a car or had to have anything damage related repaired, I wanted to check something and get your opinion.

Was taking my TD4 round a bend this morning, only about 5mph, which was possibly too fast considering the amount of snow. Car glided into the kerb and made a horrible noise. Was the drivers side front wheel which hit at an angle. Tiny scrape to the very edge of the rim.

Could something like this damage anything? Put tracking out etc? Probably just being paranoid but worth checking.

Thabks

depending on the impact and the angle of the wheel at the time of impact, yes it could put the tracking out.

if it was out badly you probably would feel it in the steering.

Worth checking? yes, the first time you will notice it is when abnormal wear on the tyres is visible. Other option is not to check but measure tyre wear across the tread now, and note it, then check every week to ensure wear is even. Spray the scrape with laquer my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Thanks everyone. Considering getting a squeak/whine checked so may be worth getting it done at same time. Do you know if LR dealers can do it?

Usually the tyre-fitting depots are cheaper than dealers for tracking - and they do it a lot more so are possibly better at it? Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

If your steering wheel is in the same position as it was before the shunt when driving in a straight line, your tracking won't be out.

To be on the safe side get it checked by the local agent of these people.

http://www.hunter.com/alignment/index.cfm

I suffered from terrific road noise from My Grabber AT tyres and it turned out that my tracking was miles out of alignment and I have not hit anything.

Also heard rumours of new cars being delivered with tracking out of spec.

Anyway £80.00 should give you piece of mind and possibly extend your tyre life.

just a note from me.

I had a Nissan a few years back and hit the curb after sliding in the snow. I didnt put the tracking out but did buckle the wheel.

You would know though as you feel it through the steering as you drive in a straight line.
