I've never owned a car clever enough to have a service indicator to set the scene!

Its coming upto the 12 months since i purchased my FL (march) and this will be his first service - do i expect to see the indicator on or around the 12 month mark or is it purely based on mileage?

I have a 2014 model bought new 6/3/14 and the service indicator came on yesterday showing 21 days to service , 6315 mls .

Service interval shows up in both distance and time, whichever comes first. Either 16,000 miles or 12 months for post MY13 or in the case of pre MY13 it is 15,000 miles or 12 months.
