Well further to my other post "Cold Starting" the car is on its way back to the dealers.

It completely failed to start today, called LR Assist and they couldn't start it either. I am informed the battery is probably past it and none of the glow plugs seem to be functioning.

I have owned the car 42 days, 22 of those it has spent in the workshop having a fuel leak sorted (new no 3 injector and return pipes on the others) and new Pads and Disc all round (which got missed on the PDI Question )

Ok, so I have a car that now has all new brakes at no cost to me and am informed the starting issue will be sorted, But it does make me wonder what actually happened when the car went through the approved used car checks prior to me buying it.

Above and beyond ! Sad

Ian.

I sometimes think the checks consist of someone looking out of the window at the car! Mine have always been sorted and without any cost to me, but it's the time. I don't want my new car in the garage, I want to be in it enjoying it. If anything really needs sorting it's getting the car A1 for the customer before its picked up. I sometimes wonder if it's done on purpose as the faults found are picked up by the warranty rather than the garage before the sale Evil or Very Mad

and this is why garages dont like me....

I've had problems in the past and to say I hold them to task and then some is an understatement.

An initial check before signing on the dotted line and one at pick up helps but so does reading the contract and knowing it and them better than you.

Finally with all this in tow you can give them a kicking and get some thing back.

That said - get the start up issue covered by either additional warranty or a written letter covering that period so if any thing does occur with in that period your sorted.

Thanks for the replies Guy's, rest assured they know my stance on this and I have already had compensation by means of the next service paid for, for the first round of issues. We were also given new Ewok as a loan car.

This morning I told them what I expected re repairs and we have been given a 14 reg Pathfinder to use.

I'll keep the thread updated as it progresses.

I must say, with the first issues, towards the end I got LR customer relations involved and they were very good.

I wouldn't accept a free service, if they are so incompetent at prepairing a car for sale who's to say they will do the service correctly, I would only accept accessories as compensation. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

I bought the car from a LR Dealer a long way away from where I live so all the work is / has been done by a more local one Thumbs Up

So sounds like the free service was organized by LRCS?. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

Yep, but the hefty bill for the brake reline, new Disk, Pads all round and new rear Brake Shoes was covered by the dealer. as was the Loan Ewok, The fuel work was done under warranty.

I need to wait to hear now what the full diagnosis is this time but shall insist on a new battery as well as what ever else it needs to cure the poor cold starting.

Really surprised an LR dealer would sell a car that old let alone put a warranty on it lasting more than a month. Most would put it out in the trade. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

If you look on the LR website and use the approved used vehicle search tool you will see there are many older cars for sale.

Hence why I choose to buy from a LR dealer rather than privately or non franchised. Just as well I did really as I'm sure an Independent dealer would have been very reluctant to put these things right without trying to fob me off.

And having gotten LRCR involved they can't apologize and help enough with what has transpired. So I recommend buying from a LR dealer, just for the back up from the manufacturer.

My current 11 reg developed a gearbox problem after about 3 months where you got a grinding noise when going into 5th. I took it to the LR dealer and when I got it back I only drove about 200 yds and the problem was still there so I went straight back in and this time the service manager came out with me and agreed there was a problem. He called the next day to say he had booked it for the warranty approval engineer to see it and arranged a courtesy vehicle. I got my car back after 2 weeks having had the gearbox rebuilt by a specialist firm. It has been fine since.
My point is that why didn't they do this in the first place? I wonder if the strategy is to see if the client will put up with some of the faults so they use the client as the tester.

I take it that the car has LR approved warranty?

Yep, It has the warranty that is part of the approved used scheme plus I extended it at purchase.

To be honest I don't care who pay's for what as long as it doesn't cost me anything Yawn

I know one thing, any profit that the dealer made when they took it in in PX has gone Rolling with laughter

Sounds a bit odd, I bought cars from LR dealers and took them back with various faults and they have sorted them out without ever asking for payment. I thought that they were able to spend a certain amount of time/money on a warranty job and after that it needed one of the LR inspectors to give the nod to carry on. Makes me wonder if they either forgot it was under warranty or kept your money and didn't register it for extended warranty work in the first place.
