The difference to me when I get in my brothers is that you are sitting in it, rather than on it. Side by side, the DS Door is higher than the FL2, but the windscreen is raked flatter, thus creating the illusion that you are in a normal car. I notice a difference every time I get out of his and back into mine. MY13 HSE Lux.......faultless since new.

Aha yes indeed, that’s completely different and one, actually the main reason when the F-Pace came out we had an early test drive and dismissed it completely, the same like sitting in a sports car rather than a 4X4.

We like the feeling of riding “on” rather than “in” the seating position. Regards

David

Funny you should say that when I went up to JLR to pick up my DiL’s Discovery (new model) recently even with that model getting in and out the A Pillar was noticeably closer (and a headbanger if not careful) compared to our FFRR we had at the time, even the FL2 we have now is so much easier regarding ingress/egress. Regards

Surely the DS is only about 17mm lower roof height than the FL2? Not sure about the actual H Point which is the one that makes the eyeline difference, but it cannot be that much.

You seem to get into the car level with your pelvice rather than climbing up into the Freelander. The only way to find out is to actually measure seat to ground with a plank and measuring stick. When I have the opportunity to do this I will post the result.

Indeed you need to measure the H (hip) Point not the front of the squab, we had a special “pole” that sat across both seats at the H Point and was adjustable to compensate for the side bolsters if too prominent to compare competitor vehicles in tear down operations, all good fun. Regards

Interesting video. Lots of real improvements, although the huge front overhang and terrible approach angle are most un LR like and the adoption of a BMW-alike gear lever is a real shame Sad

Real improvements at a real premium as well! Just tried to build the equivalent to my brothers HSE Lux, and as you can only get an HSE now, and have to separately add all the HSE Lux bits, it has come in at a whopping £57k like for like! That's D5 money almost....what ARE they playing at....

His new would have been £51k OTR had he built it on the old platform......so a £6k price increase on a like for like build! Crazy..... MY13 HSE Lux.......faultless since new.

£53k for my spec an HSE D240, granted I’ve added a few things that I didn’t have previously on my DS but have them on the Velar.

In 2015 my DS HSE SD4 manual, including options, came in below £40k. And the pano roof was standard. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Just tried to build new DS to roughly the same spec as my Metro and I easily exceeded £50k.

To me the Adaptive Dynamic Suspension and the 360/Ground View Cameras are the best extra features. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

The adaptive dampers are a must on the DS IMO. As I’ve said the ride was one of my gripes with it.

You really notice how much more comfortable the car is with Adaptive dampers, my Velar has them and I really felt it when I had a DS loaner a few times over the last 16 months. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
