rattle after pressing clutch pedal

I have 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 with manual transmission.

When I am quickly pressing clutch pedal when driving on 1st gear, very often I hear unpleasant metalic rattle from under the car.
When I am pressing clutch very slow, mostly is OK, no rattle.

It was absolutely OK when the car was new, I am sure there weren't any noises any time.

First I noticed this noise within ~5000 km mileage.
After this, next weeks, the noise used to be more and more frequent.
I decided to visit my dealer about ~9000 km mileage, as sound was very frequent and disturbing.

They checked LR calls for service, gearbox oil, drive shaft leeway and sth more and there said me that this sound is "must have" because my car is 4x4 and all 4x4 M/T cars has this sound and this noise is probably drive shaft "disconnect". Then I said that I hadn't this noise when car was new, and also I driven a few old 4x4 Subarus and there weren't any noise.

Now I have ~12000 km mileage and this noise begins noticeable also when changing gear from 2nd to 3rdr, and on 1st gear this noise is even more freqent (also when I am slowly pressing clutch).

Is this really common sound with manual tranmission? I don't belive, we have 2011 year, not 1980s.

Sorry for my english, but in my country FL2 is exotic car and we haven't any FL2 forum communities to ask for.

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

Congratulations on your English it is very good.

I have owned 2 Freelander 2 a 2007 manual and a 2011 manual.
Neither of them have ever shown the symptoms you describe and it is certainly not normal in a Freelander. If it was this forum would be full of comments about it.

Freelanders are known for having quiet, smooth gear changes. It sounds like it might be a clutch related problem, particularly if it was initially in 1st gear and is now when changing from 2nd to 3rd.

If possible take it to another dealer, if not get the dealer to put a technician in the car with you so he can experience the noise at first hand.

A rattling noise when the clutch is depressed is usually the clutch release bearing (the bearing that takes the pressure of holding the clutch plate away from the flywheel). The noise would be continuous whenever the clutch is depressed.
Alternatively I wonder if there may be a problem with your dual mass flywheel.
Certainly there should be no noise on depressing the clutch. Your dealer is lying.

I hear noise when I am pressing the clutch, not depressing.
There aren't any noises when I release the clutch.
Need to fight with dealer Banging Head

Sorry - in this context, "depress" means "press". Same, not opposite.
Apologies on behalf of the English language: you press a button or a switch, but you depress a clutch.

Sounds like your clutch release bearing is on the way out, you should get it checked out soon as possable as if it were to fall to bits your in big trouble, very expensive.

Actually it's quite logical - you can "press" in any direction including up (Latin premo, I press, squeeze, thrust, etc), but you can only
depress downwards (Latin depremo, I press down).
Don't confuse de- down, with dis- undo. Of course dis- sometimes becomes de-, which is why you need to know your Latin to understand English Whistle

er... sorry!

Nope. Dealer refused to fix this, their checked it and serviceman said that is common noise and Disco IV manual has the same and this is something about shaft spin (which I don't belive). The colleague of mine (VW Passat owner) said me this noise is proper sign of clutch working. Despite of this sound clutch is still working correctly and I still have this sound.

IMHO it's still ugly and annoing noise, I am going to choose automatic transmision next time.
