What are people doing?

With the new "Freelander / Discovery Sport" due next year, I'm contemplating one. My current FL2 is 3 years old, will be 4 next year and a good time to replace it. Having said that, with the launch of the new model, there are likely to be some deals to be done on the outgoing (current) FL2 model, so what do forum members think? ...

good question, cheap fl2 sort of appeals but it is becoming a little dated, despite being more modern than my RRS

probably wait for new model or try and jump into a used new shape RRS but they are holding values too well.

at present Im on hold not wanting an 'old shape' version of either. The conservatory/patio having taking up most of my cash anyway, Mrs G's shoe buying habits clearing up the rest Confused

not that I ever considered one but clarkson has just delivered a deserved sales slide to the itchybushy phev in todays sunday times Thumbs Up . At work

Yep, Clarkson, as ever, is readable and gave the PHEV its due attention by limiting specific review content to the last sentence where he, rightly, calls it out as pretty Censored sh*t. Thumbs Up ...

The question is do you want to buy the last of the FL2 - fully sorted, all the kit and depreciation similar to a LADA.

Or do you want to buy a very expensive peice of development kit that will be as reliable as a LADA but will hold it's price well.

me I drive lots of miles, and keep the cars until at least 100K, so it's a no brainer. If you drive 3K a year and change every 2 years then the expensive pile of trouble is the way to go.

Maybe the right answer is to buy a Evoke. it's a few years down the line so many problems are sorted, and it holds it's value well.

Apolgies to LADA owners - but we had a couple of Skodas that were both very reliable - so no skoda jokes here (they both depreciated faster than a falling lead weight Crying or Very sad ). Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I'm going to wait see what the new Defender has to offer. Did have a look at one before buying my Freelander, but had my doubts over reliability, security, safety, performance ....

I would never want to be one of the first to run a new model which is why I went down the FL2 route.

I know new models are far better sorted then they used to be, but at least with the FL2 you know what you are getting Whistle Cheers Ian

Launch model FL2 went back to the dealer 22 times in 2 1/2 years

09 FL2 been back but nowhere near as many times

Might hang on and see how the new DS looks, the new engine performs and how the build quality is along with mpg etc

But mainly the costs of it will decide for me Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I fancy getting a new Sport. I was disappointed to read this week that there are a shortage of the new LR engines which means the new Sport will have a FL2 engine in it for the first year or so. The new LR engines are being given priority to the new Jag model. Once the new Sport comes with the new engine then I will consider buying a Sport. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

State pension, ouch.

The Government keeps changing the goal posts for that one. I won't get it until I am 66 and then you have to have 35 years National Insurance. No doubt they will change that and it will be 75 years of age and 50 years National Insurance next year! Rolling Eyes

if the Disco Sport doesn't have the hotfire engine in it, i'll be waiting for it to do so before i buy one, especially if that is supposed to be more economical

So just signed up for another years LR Warranty and done a 3 year service plan to tide me over for a bit Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I'm only going by what I've read about the engine but here's the link

I'll be waiting for the new car and new engine. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

FL2 engines first?

I decided a while ago to wait for a real new model before replacing my excellent 7yr old FL2 SE Auto. Should the Auto-Express story about engines be true I will certainly wait a little longer. Rolling Eyes Big Cry

Frankly I find it very hard to believe anyone would consider a Disco Sport with an old style engine & fuel economy / CO2 emissions rating etc.!! Shocked Life is not a dress rehearsal!

With emerging details of the new Disco Sport as FL2 replacement (new styling, 5+2 seating, 'modest' ground clearance evident etc etc) have people changed their mind? I will obv wait to see / drive a real one, but I'm hoping that it will still be the right car for me in a year or two...
