System Startup Problem

Hi had my freelander 2 2008. 2.2 diesel auto. since July with no probs. But now weather is cooling down a bit. Insert fob, press button, system startup wait till ignition kicks in, press start button, click. Press again, engine startup, ignition kicks in, press again sometimes starts or I have to repeat until it starts. Even after a run it still happens. Suspected battery so fitted new battery still same. Any offers? cheers. Ridge.

First thing to do is check your battery voltage, if your alternator's failing a new battery won't last long.

Thanx for that, I did have that checked before I fitted a new battery & it was reading ok, but I had to start somewhere & a new battery was the cheapest option, so I went for a Honda Battery with a better ampage. When it does turn over on about the 3rd attempt it turns over ok, not labouring like a flat battery. I will have my alternator checked again tho with the new battery on. I am thinking it's something else tho? Confused

In that case you may want to have a look at the extra earth strap threads.

Could be the starter motor solenoid.
Symptoms are very similar.
There is a post somewhere about replacing them Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
