While investigating my lighting for driving abroad a friend of mine put the car on his beam tester and although only 2 months old at the time I was being flashed by oncoming cars, apparently my lighting was way too high and to the right so it was no wonder that I seemed to have a dark void in front of me. I had fitted the Osram nightbreaker unlimited to mine and the difference was not noticeable until he had re-adjusted the beams, now it is quite good.
I thought how can one lamp be as efficient as two but in fact the dipped part has been improved by the small changes to the lens/reflector to accommodate the single lamp and shutter, much better at lighting the kerb now. So yes, the uprated lamps do make a difference in as much as the lighting is quite acceptable now..
