Malta 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Alaska White
Jolts and Stalling

Hi guys, this subject has been visited before but please bear with me.

I have a FL2 2008 Commercial which drives very well EXCEPT that on two occasions it started jolting and then died out and I had a 'reduced performance' message. The car usually starts again after 5-10 minutes only to do it again and again. This has happened twice to me within a year under similar circumstances:

1) The weather was hot: 30+c;
2) I was idling for about 15 mins in a traffic jam
3) As soon as I accelerated to go into a roundabout, I felt the first jolt, then normal, then after about half a mile, more jolting until the engine died and had the 'reduced performance' message
4) After about 5 mins I tried to restart the engine and it started normally with no messages
5) It died and restarted again about 3 times in a two mile journey.
6) Everything else looked normal, car temp was halfway, no other messages

The first time this happened I took it to a dealer who said that the diagnostic test did not turn up anything.

Any ideas??

Maybe it wasn't primed properly and you have air in the system. John

But it was working just fine for the first 9 days Sad

Having seen other threads, I'm thinking more in terms of the crank sensor. I'll need to check if its dirty (once I work out where it is!!) Series 2a 88 - 1962
