United States 2015 LR2 2.0T SE Auto Aintree Green
Ordering a 2015 Freelander 2 / LR2

Hi all,

I'm preparing to order a 2015 LR2 as we call them here in the States. It will be my fourth Land Rover product, after a 2003 Range Rover, 2012 LR2, and 2013 Evoque. I really did enjoy the Evoque, but for value for money I think the LR2 is the the better bet, even if resale isn't as strong as the Evoque.

Here in the US and Canada markets, the 2015 will be a short run (as I'm sure it will be globally), but there are a few special packages on offer here to help send the FL2/LR2 out in style.

Anyhow, I know there are probably very few of the 2.0 liter turbo petrol engines among forum members, but if any of you are out there, I just wanted to see what your thoughts of reliability are? Of course my 2013 Evoque had this 2.0 litre petrol and six-speed automatic combination, but I only logged 7,000 miles on it before I sold. I'm sure some of you on here log more miles and kilometres than I do.

What do you all think of the interior refresh? Materials quality seems about on par with the Evoque, although a lot of the touch points are harder on the FL2... pretty much on par for what was acceptable a decade ago when this model first bowed.

Just curious as to what you all think. I have found the FL2 to be a classic design since it's launch, so I really do want to get my order in and have a classic looking LR when the new generation comes out...

Anyone's thoughts? It will definitely be one of only a handful of 2015s coming to the US/CAN/MEX region. My dealer where I have purchased my other three has not been allocated a single 2015 order yet. Yikes! I may have to order from a Chicago dealer that offers LR and where I once purchased a Volvo. They have the allocation to accommodate a Christmas-time delivery.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue

Hi Michael, I agree with you that the FL2 is something of a classic design. I think it was a very significant new model for Landrover. The first Freelander 1 model did a fair job in establishing a toe hold in the small SUV market but it had a terrible reputation for reliability. The FL2 has a much stronger bodyshell and is all round a far more capable vehicle. LR got so much right with the FL2. In comparison with the overweight, overly complex and unreliable LR3/4 the FL2 is a very good all rounder. I liked the interior when the car was launched but accept that it is now dated in comparison with the Evoque or other competitor small SUVs. It is a pity that the FL2 was starved of development funding over i's model llife (money was spent on the Evoque rather than making significant improvements t the FL2) - I think the changes to the interior are negligible. LR do some of the very best interiors of any car at any price but sadly they didn't really do their best on the FL2 interior.
So some of the trim and switchgear is certainly not very special. despite a few minor tweaks. I went for tan leather on my GS and am very happy with it - it is wearing exceptionally well after 68,000miles and I think the interior is still a nice place to travel in.
I can only comment on reliability of the diesel engine - mine has been perfect!
As there will be a shortage of the new Disco Sports in the USA (and everywhere) for some time I would imagine that an end of run FL2 would hold it's value well and retain quite a lot of appeal as a tried and tested quality car - it has a good reputation in the trade and is by most accounts the best off roader in it's class. The Evoque has considerably less room inside and I think the FL2 represents better value for money. No doubt the new model will have off road capability but to my eyes it does not look the part as well as the FL2 - so I would buy one while you still can. Good luck.
Robin

United States 2015 LR2 2.0T SE Auto Aintree Green

Alright -- my 2015 LR2 is on the way! Ended up dropping a few options and did not opt for an HSE Lux as originally planned.

Ordered a US Spec LR2 base model in Aintree Green with almond interior and nutmeg carpet. Options are navigation, SDARS and HD radio package and climate package.

It's about $6,000 less than I originally planned... actually comes in at a bit less than my 2012 HSE and, save for the HID headlamps and memory driver seats, it is the much greater car.

I'll update once it's here!

I should also mention, just in case there are any new American readers on here... I ordered from Land Rover Centre Chicago. This is my second LR from them -- the other being my Evoque. I can also recommend Land Rover Centre Dayton in Ohio, I purchased an older LR2 there, as well.
