Drone hobbyists?

I'm curious if anyone here has any experience with flying drones (not dropping Hellfires on insurgents) around for a fun/aerial photography. I'm looking at picking up an AR Drone for a good price and am curious if anyone has any experience with them.

I have been watching out of interest what has been happening with these quad copters with a camera in the USA. before getting one I would suggest you contact the Aviation Authority about flying low model craft of this type. Then there is the risk of being taken to court for invasion of privacy. You may find you come under the flying commercial aircraft if you what to do aerial photography for profit or as a business and need a licence.

its a relatively new area in the legal sense and best to check up what one can and can't do.

Ok this is a lnk to a USA site but worth looking at

Good common sense info there.
I'm mainly looking to take it out to the mountains when I go camping for some shots from above the campsite or when I head to the shore. I have some friends in different parts of the States who have been flying these for a couple of years and things are definitely starting to heat up, legally, depending on where you are.

I thought you were in the UK but now see you ARE in the USA sorry, but even so, where ever you plan to use it the law remains and the privacy aspect even on a campsite will still apply Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

I've just bought a Hubsan H107D FPV X4 5.8G 4CH 6 Axis RC Quadcopter RTF (Mode 2)

Loads smaller than a DJI Phantom but with inbuilt camera and screen on remote which can record

Got to start somewhere before buying a phantom Vision

I've just picked up one of these... http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store..._Fly_.html

Flies really well, the option to program missions is awesome, so is the price + the gimbal is also cheap.

We use these at work to map small areas of coastal erosion Etc. Excellent fun.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a locally-sold (Craigslist) AR.Drone v2. It's a solid little machine that can take a beating (including being grabbed and given a good shake by a 75lb Rhodesian/Lab mix).

I took it up into the mountains this past weekend and managed to get a few snaps of our meadow in Boone, NC.
