Four of us have just got back from a European motorcycling trip and while coming through France we think we might have been caught on camera a few times between us. These were the rear facing cameras, not the front facing ones. We had a Google and it's a bit confusing. Does anyone have any experience of being caught on camera in France? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

At present, there is no reciprocal arrangement with France for speed cameras, so don't worry you're in the clear.

The French or any other nation do not have the powers to apply penalty points to a UK driver's licence. However, they can confiscate your driver's licence at the roadside for a "serious" offence - the Swiss and Austrians do this frequently In addition, even though you may have been caught speeding by a French road side fix camera position they cannot impose a fine upon you due to the fact that the UK, Eire and Denmark are not signatories to the bilateral EU directive on road traffic offences. The three nations opted out on the basis that the vehicle registration alone is no proof of which driver committed said offence. Having said all that; if you are ever caught and pulled over by "Le Flic" for an offence during your future visits to France and they bother to check your vehicle registration against their computer records and see this 2014 incident, then, it may be that Monsieur Le Flic will increase the penalty for the offence he has just pulled you over for. I must say though that this "retrospect" uplift has never been applied to myself on the very rare occasion I have been stopped galloping at a great rate of knots on my Ducati across France but I know of fellow riders who have been dealt with in this manner. |

I thought I heard recently Europe were making arrangements to impose points for offences in other European countries? You should be ok as your offence will pre-date the agreement when it is finalised (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc
