Basic story is that the 2.2 engine is pretty solid (Ford/Peugeot) but there were some issues with hesitation on 2011 models. Common weak points are rear diff, rear wheel bearings and xfer box. You need to spend a lot of time looking through the content on this site. Members tend to be very practical and helpful and you will get a good idea of what you can have a go at yourself. Repairs tend to be expensive.

We're all too busy worrying about our transmissions.... Must be nice to clear the brain & plan a nice stripe now & then. |

Just bought our first Freelander 2 so joined the forum, hope it will be as reliable as our old Discovery 2 was (till it died) |

Hi. I run a Freelander and thought I would see what your site had to offer.

Been a member for a few weeks and read some of the horror stories around here. I think I will look for something else a little less challenging. |

Rugrover - all makes/models have horror stories but in comparison to the numbers sold they are relatively rare. On a forum you see people asking for help when things go wrong, so that gives the impression that they are problem vehicles.

Rugrover the FL2 is the most reliable LR ever built, don't be put off by some of the stories on here. Forum subscribers are mostly mechanically minded of have had a problem. There are thousands of FL2s out there, running perfectly well. I am on my second one - the first reached 103,000 miles without anything major. Only changed it to get an auto. Still really pleased with it. For peace of mind, get a genuine LR warranty, don't touch any others.

Remember very few people go on the internet to praise stuff when it doesn't go wrong |
