I bought my first Freelander last Monday
It is a MY12, Td4 Sport Edition. Great car, I love it!

Hi new boy here.

Long time admirer of Land Rovers and now in a position to afford a Freelander. Have some questions that I hope someone may help with.

I had considered buying a nearly new TD4e in either XS or HSE trim at a time when '13MY versions start appearing at dealers. However, I've recently found out that as a Tata Group employee I am eligible for a list price discount provided my HR department is able to provide the necessary authorisation to a participating dealer.

My questions are therefore

1) has anyone had any experience of purchasing a discounted Freelander via Tata?
2) which of the selected dealers would I need to contact to discuss?
3) is there any advantage to going down this route as opposed to nearly-new?
4) other than full leather and a panoramic roof, is the HSE worth the price premium over the XS?
5) are the TD4 and TD4e options now one and the same engine for the '13MY?
6) the Freelander is on a shortlist of three with the Honda CR-V and the Volkswagen Tiguan. Both marques have a good reputation for quality, reliability and residual value retention. How does the Freelander compare?

Any steer on the above would be really appreciated.

Now ! I've got a disco 1 set up for off roading , ran a freelander 1 for 4 years
But have just changed it for the freel 2 what a difference it's awesome compared to
The free 1 it's an 08 plate Gs in a gun metal grey colour not sure of the name ,
It developed a few problems after I bought it but has now all been sorted and is good
As new fingers crossed

Hi, not my first post here. I posted elsewhere then found this bit. I took delivery of a MY13 Santorini Black/Ebony SD4 HSE on Christmas Eve.

I love it! A cracking motor which I hope will live up to all my expectations.

So many toys! Though the heated steering wheel feels a bit odd. The only problem is getting voice tags onto the Sat Nav.

Its going to have an interesting life. Not really used much for commuting - unless it's raining as work is walkable for my wife. Where its going to come into its own will be on the weekly trip from our home in Newcastle, to our place in Galloway - SW Scotland. Me, my wife, the dog, weekend gear and a 130 mile journey of A roads, Motorway and B roads. I don't thik it will be going off road, but it'll know rough tracks and the like.

It replaces my trusty Mazda CX-7 - a 2.3 Turbo petrol SUV. Cracking car with decent performance. They don't make them any more and after five years of service - I saw it arrive at the dealers from the docks - it will go into retirement with my Father in Law, who has lusted after it for many years!

I kept it so long because I loved it. It did everything we needed. I hope the Landy fills its shoes perfectly.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, my first Freelander. I am so pleased with this vehicle I am like dog with two bones. This is also my first Land Rover. I am impressed with the quality of the vehicle in general. The doors shut with a 'quality clunk', the interior plastics have a semi-tactile feel to them, the seats are comfortable, it's easy to drive and the acceleration is extremely good.

I’m a newbie to the site & am not yet a Land Rover owner but am looking to be in the spring.
I am hoping to buy my first Freelander 2 and am very impressed with the new MY13 model.
I was wondering if anyone had any opinions or advice with regards to the model & spec I am considering.
My ‘configuration’ which I have done many, many times on the website is:

XS TD4 Auto (Deffo Auto), Firenze Red (may consider Baltic Blue at a push, if they still did ‘Bali Blue’ I’d pick that, no hesitation), not decided which colour interior
Options I’d like:
Electric Panoramic Sunroof
Heated Exterior Mirrors with Electric Adjustment & Powerfold, Puddle Lamps, Memory
Function and Auto-dipping in Reverse Gear (Say you must also choose: Memory - Driver's Seat and Wing Mirror)
Xenon (or Halogen) Headlamps with LED Signature
Automatic Climate Control with Air Filtration and Quality Sensing
Auto Dimming Interior Mirror (with Humidity Sensor)
Heated Leather Steering Wheel (with Steering Wheel Controls)
Cold Climate Pack
Armrest Pack

Is there really much difference between the TD4 & SD4 for an extra grand?
Are the Xenon headlights worth it or are the Halogen ones ok?
Are the options I have on my list worth it?
Is there anything else I should think about?

So many questions….. Sorry about that!
