United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Santorini Black
Car going back for exchange but which to choose..?

Some of you may have seen my other post http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic19212.html regarding excessive corrosion to a new (to me) 2010 Freelander which I bought from a dealer in January.

Happily the dealer has agreed to exchange the car and has given me the choice of three. The one going back is a 10 plate GS in Santorini black with no extras, 57k miles.

So I have to choose between:

09 XS in silver, 62k miles
10 GS in black, 31k miles
10 GS in grey, tow bar, 45k miles.

My heart prefers:

1. The silver XS for the toys - leather heated electric seats, winter pack, front PDC, sat nav, etc
2. The grey GS 'cos I prefer the colour and it has a tow bar (which in honesty I might never use)
3. The black GS 'cos it's still a better car (nearly half the mileage!) than the one going back

My head says:

Get the black GS. Sod the toys on the XS - go for the lowest mileage car I can.

I know it's a bit of a 'first world problem', but any advice?

Id say mileage, toys are just toys, LR sat nav is not great anyway At work

10 GS 31k

Heated seats etc are great... 4 months of the year. If you are planning to keep the car 2 or 3 years the mileage would be a factor for me.

If you use satnav all the time the built in one the XS has is worth a look, but is the spec worth the older plate

Though the 10 GS with lower mileage is a better option, especially if it's been looked after and had extras added

I was looking for a recent GS to replace the old one, but got a HSE at a very good price instead. Tbh I can't see any advantage in the toys I have now - heated steering wheel is nice I suppose for the morning station run but seriously...?
As regards the Satnav, I think the MY10 still has the cubby hole in the dash, in which you can fit a cheap TomTom (there's a thread on how to do it) which most people agree is a better satnav anyway. Only downside - black does show the dirt, and you'll work the aircon a little harder in summer.
Actually one thing I would miss is the parking sensors. Not sure if the GS has those (my MY07 did).
Buy black!

I followed your other thread and I am pleased things have worked out for you.

My 2 cents on the new car are....

The low mileage GS is probably the best choice but there will be times you will wish you had the toys that the XS has got and depending on the need/desire of those toys is your answer.

When I got my Freely it must have included front parking sensors & heated front screen the other toys were fine but I would have gone without them the actual model was not important. So what toys must yours have?

Regarding colour mine is black but again either grey (my 1st choice) black or silver were fine .... what colours can you live with?

I'd drive all of them before decision time first though as one may feel just right!

Check the service history of all the cars.See if they have had any work done, the dealer can give you a print out. Punch the vin number and an old MOT cert into the gov web site and it will give you the MOT history and all advisories.

62K is spot on for the 09 plate car and no mileage for a diesel. Cars that do good regular mileage are a better choice than those that just pop to the shops or do the school run. There was a chap on here that brought a very low mileage car and the has all sorts of issues with it,inc a new clutch.

Toys are nice and good when it comes to trading or selling.

Someone above may already have said this but your own future mileage should inform your choice. i.e. if you do loads get the low mileage car and if you only do 5 - 8K per year say then the higher mileage car is not so much of a concern. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

XS, for me front PDC are equally as important as ones at the rear.
Built-in navigation is very usefull, I was following a diversion recently and the signs suddenly stopped (or I missed one) so just hit the home button and away I went, my TomTom would have been at home or on loan to a family member. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

Black GS for with out a 2nd thought, Might be a bit lower spec but less miles are worth a lot more than a few toys that chances are you wont bother with after the first month or so.
If the sat nav plays apart in it retro fit the TomTom 60 as many of us have done on here.

PS, Excellent news on solving the problem, Hats off to the dealer concerned Thumbs Up
