Scotland 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Lago Grey
recovery points

Had a search/nothing obvious came up... Has anyone done or heard of a conversion/mod to beef up or install a heavier front and rear recovery point, I have a OE towbar so the rear is not really a worry.

If it's a re-post please direct me, otherwise who's discovered what can be done?

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

Front and rear recovery points are rated at 2 1/2 times the vehicle weight. OE towbar is rated to 2.0 tonnes.

Most 4x4 clubs assume factory fit recovery points are actually tie downs and not sufficient.

I agree - the front and rear points on the Freelander are strong enough for anything you're going to get into unless you're a maniac who thinks they can follow a lifted Disco on M/Ts into a mud run!

You wouldn't believe the number of lifted Discos that have pulled me out of a failed mud run. Then again a FL2 on M/Ts can get a fair way in before it gets stuck Very Happy , and on occasion all the way through.

More important is trying to pull the lifted Defender out of the mud run with the FL2, yes it's been done, but the Defender + the pull of the mud can be well in excess of the "towing" capacity, let alone the sudden snatch that you might be tempted to try once steady pulling has failed, - hence the advice to use the recovery points rather than the towbar.

Don't get me started on elastic type recovery ropes. A 50mm tow ball at speed can be fatal. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
