Tried various, methods over the years ash works very well,but for really stubborn heavy duty cleaning
Cilit bang( purple bottle ) white scouring pad (nylon non scratch from tesco) spray foam on to each side of glass(do one side at a time) not forgetting to place suitable protection on the hearth first,filal wipe with kitchen roll all clean and sparkly..
I use tiny amount of wd40 on a rag to wipe the stove over when cold, only and nice shine makes it look like new

Were the mud is thicker, and the ruts are deeper.
(And we have the water to wash it off, and more on the way..! )

Just for interest, are those that have to clean their glass, have either single glaze glass or have one of the cheaper far east imports my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

its all down to flue and fuel and usage.. a mate of mine has the same stove as me and its always cleaner than clean,
mine stays clean for a while .

but my mate has his in his 'sunday best' room so only lights it occasionally and generally full bore, mine often smoulders all day while we are out then gets opened up when we come home.

lighting the fire using plastic bottles probably doesnt help Whistle At work

If you want to get out of cleaning it at all DO A REALY BAD JOB OF IT WORSE THAN WHEN YOU STARTED then the misses will say this is how you do it ,

job done while you sit back with a cold beer (IN YOUR DREAMS..!!) Wales
