mirror smashed - just what i need after chrimble....

chaps
i've just had my drivers side mirror and housing smashed by a transit while passing on a narrow road. Evil or Very Mad Not something to get too uppity about as its a rural area - but now i need to replace it. Mine's an S 2008 so not motorised for folding back - can i replace it with the whole mirror from a GS or HSE (ie folding back model) or do i need to get an S version?

thanks
pete

I'm 99% certain that it doesn't matter if you buy of a higher spec model, it's just that the extra bits won't work.
.
What you must do is buy the mirror of a pre facelift car as most (but not all) facelifts have a different mirror with detachable top covers and a flatter top rim profile.
.
Question is the whole mirror annihilated
It is possible to buy aftermarket stick on colour matched covers and a new glass.
.
Kind regards from Fred

well the mirror housing plastic is smashed and the mirror 'pod' is just resting on the socket part which is attached to the car. the glass is oblitor.....olblitar......smashed to pieces (think kalidoscope rear view) so looking at ebay it seems cheapest to get the whole thing. Hadn't thought about facelift side of things so will have to watch that!

don't think this is actual one you need but if you find the part number you need Left/Right, try somewhere like this

I paid £330 at LR for supply and fit of a HSE powerfold mirror will colour coded cap back in 2011 after a bus decided to side swipe me - nothing but the best for me as the bus company accepted full responsibility and offered to cover the bill without going through insurance Thumbs Up
