I recommend hiring the gear from your nearest Brandon Tool Hire depot. My dad is the manager of our local branch and has been manager there (albeit under various owners and company names) for 40 years

I had a leaking roof a few years back. We knew a builder who had done a couple of minor roof repairs for us in the past. When he called around he climbed up through a velux window in the loft, scambled about for 10 minutes then climbed back in the window. My wife was watching him all the time through the second velux and she was like Turned out to be the render had blown, he came back with his ladders and did the job for 40 quid cash.
