Wheels! Upgrade or stick with standard?

Have just fitted my side steps this morning. I know some love them and some don't but we had them on a discovery a few years back and swmbo requested the freely was to have some.
Well I have had the car 2 weeks now and she is starting to look how I wanted.
After seeing pics of freelys running 19"and 20" evoque wheels I've been very tempted to upgrade wheels.
Only thing is after fitting side steps I'm quite liking the standard rims.
What are your thoughts on the wheels.
Upgrade or save my money?

Stick with your standard rims IMHO. Changing to 19" or 20" rims will mean more expense with tyre purchases and far less choice with your selection of tyres. Thumbs Up

I changed my wheels from the standard HSE to some from an Evogue - I don't think the GS look that different in all honesty. I would wait until you need new tyres - spend your money on body coloured handles and wing mirror caps - I think they make the real difference Thumbs Up

I agree with Wing, there can be a big increase in price with tyre size and up at 19/20" the wheels look silly on the Freelander as they give an illusion that there is too much gap under the arches, at the end of the day it's a 4WD and needs a decent looking tyre on it.

That said, if your so inclined there are quite a few on Fleabay currently, new designs and not silly money.

Agree with Wing to a certain extent regarding tyres and expense, but how many miles will you be doing, most of us on here are getting 30k+ out of a set of rubber with a premium brand tyre, but the extra cost of another £50 a corner is very little divided over 30000 miles. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I'm still trying to find some body coloured mirrors and handles. Not easy to find in lago grey.
I do really like the look of those wheels.
Trouble is with waiting till I need new tyres is that I have 4 brand new ones on the car and also got with it 4 winter tyres with good tread.
If I do go for a wheel upgrade the plan would be to keep the standard rims but with winter tyres on and sell the nearly new summer tyres.

Compare Carries car with this one, mav's old one, the 19" wheels for me make the tyres look flat, it's an awkward look that doesn't do anything for me.

I don't cover many miles now, approx 8k a year so the tyre cost within reason doesn't bother me too much.

I do think they loll good but possibly a little too big. The 19s suit the car better having that bit bigger tyre profile.

So with that mileage a set of tyres premium brand will be less than £200 a year plus the one off cost of the rims, you can pick a set of take offs up for £800 with rims. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I got some 16" wheels from another forum member for the winter months and think it gives the car a better 4x4 look. Personal choice of course.

Steps look nice Wink
And I think your wheels do as well... I only changed mine to the Evoque style as I needed new tyres and it worked out cheaper for me to pick up a brand new set with new tyres that only cost me £499 from eBay,,, plus with the facelift mods the old style HSE wheels looked a bit dated on mine

£499 is a bargain. Think the plan should be to keep an eye out for a bargain set of 18s or 19s.
They won't be going on till spring anyway so no need to rush and spend more than I need to.
I don't mind the look of the side steps. They won't hamper the car as it's the 2wd ed4, closest to off-road I do are a few dirt tracks when I go fishing.

Must say the exhaust trim Looks good slaneydore.
Do you have to fit freelander specific or will any cheap universal do the job?
Noticed today my exhaust tip seems to have lost some of the matt coating making it look tatty.

You can fit a cheap after market tip but they never look right Whistle
The one I have is a HST tip
Same as this https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic17913.html

Did a bit of modification to mine - added a stainless oval in side to make it look a little chunkier
