Scumbags, why do they do it

Fitted some nice new mudflaps to MY13 Freely last week. Got up this morning and found the rear mud flaps ripped off and thrown on the floor. It must have taken quite a bit of strength to rip them off so violently. Obviously they are ruined and of no use to anybody but no other damage to the car. So why do they do it?

Jealousy or drunkenness, I have the dash cam permanently on these days as you never know what will happen

Sorry to hear that.
Smashed windows, keying, slashed tyres and bent aerials (showing my age) are all common, but ripping off fitted mud flaps is very unusual.
Have you upset anyone or had any road rage incidents recently ?
If not, I know you will probably think what's the point, but you should report it to the police. They have committed criminal damage, and for all you know they left a trail of damage last night and might even have been nicked. Glad there's no damage to the car.

The downside of reporting is, if there is no chance of them finding who has done it forget it, report it and it is logged, the insurance companies have access to this information, the more incidents in the area the higher your insurance premium goes and not just on your car insurance but your household insurance also. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Thats a very good point ad210358
We did report it to the police but obviosly there was nothing they could do except issue a crime report number. They did however take an awful lot of personal details about myself and the car which I wondered why did they need all that information.
On reflection I wish i had not bothered.

U did well Topaz,
Here in Italy many things don't get reported, and this doesn't help when allocating police personnel to various precincts.
Better that the police have a clear picture of crime statistics in you area

The call takers have to go through a pre prepared tick box script for all calls, most of which are irrelevant to your individual case. Frustrating for the aggrieved and the call taker. While I agree with the insurance issue and ad210358 is right, personally I would prefer to report it and let the police know about it.
You could also ask for the local neighbourhood police officer to contact you and they will take some ownership of the issue and keep an ear out. Their job is to engage with the community rather than be the general response car and this type of incident is their bread and butter.

Frustrating...I guess a lot of us on here have experienced it personally at some time or other. If you only fitted them recently, you might want to think back to who lives around you that might have seen you fitting them. My friend once had his car keyed, as did 4 others in the same road...turned out it was a little chav from 8 doors down. (He came from a broken home, according to his defence and was bored, so was let off with a "referral order")

I am a firm believer in summary justice these days....no point in involving plod - their hands are tied. Foraging near Gaydon....

These people have no respect for nothing and never realise the knock on effect as they get on with their sad life's Rolling Eyes

Just brought back a memory reading your situation

The 2.8 Capri was the Mark 2 version with the hatchback. Prior to that, with separate rear boot and, IMO, far prettier, the Mark 1 could be had with a full 3.0 litre engine. Lovely motor Thumbs Up As the advert had it "The car you always promised yourself" Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
