Quoting the last post in a topic.

I have noticed lately that you cannot "quote" the last post in a topic (on my PC anyway) which I seem to remember doing in the past.
Is it me or have the forum settings been changed and if so for what reason?

Yes they have been changed, it's to stop people "over quoting" which was annoying and provided unnecessary work for the moderators.

It's a good move IMO and keeps the forum tidier. Thumbs Up

Two months it's been like that, it was getting silly and taking a lot of time to clean up, Martin came up with this idea as a trial, it seems to be working on the whole.

Certainly makes it easier for posters to comply with the forum rules doesn't it! I hadn't noticed it had changed..perhaps those previous red warnings subliminally worked

Just need something so people either search before asking and then something that ensures it's been put in the right section in the first place. They the next plans?

Ah the search, the holy grail of forum etiquette, if only there was a way, it's quite funny sometimes as depending on the time of year, weather etc you can pretty much guarantee someone will ask one of the perennial favourites.

One of the best "my heated side rear windows aren't working, can someone advise'

It's 99% useful.
But in 1% of the cases, the previous poster has a long message with several ideas inside.
The quote will be useful in those cases to separate and answer efficiently to each idea.
But then again, above the message editing window, between subject and message body, there is the Quote button where you can insert selectively cut'n'paste quotes.

We have also looked at an idea whereby the poster would respond as follows, rather than with a quote, not ideal as it could still lead to scrolling back and forth, any thoughts?

Example

@Alex, yes it is possible to quote the immediately preceding post, however, it was stopped as people were using the reply with quote button every time, some worse than others. Pretty much cured it now, although some quoting still goes on unnecessarily at times.

Just moved it to site news as it was in general which is a vehicle thread Whistle

Thumbs Up that's the way, as you have said, it's easy to do and makes reading the threads much better.

It does make it better without the Quote, on other forums it is not enforced it means a lot of scrolling. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
