Actually, I am thinking of buying a P17 as well. Just read about it and it sounds like a bloody searchlight! LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Impressive light output indeed, although your distances are a little strange, some basic trigonometry puts your window about 29 metres high, that's about 95 feet for those members born in black and white |

I was guessing it would be 40-45m in a straight line from where I was stood at the window. There is a patio below before you reach the said 34m garden.

Unfortunately, trying to hold the lengthy and weighty maglite in one hand and taking a photo with the other meant that I lost the fair test situation because the window came into view and there is some reflection as you say.

Impressive but stupidly bright or stupidly bright and flashing cycle lights are a menace, yours look suitably dipped, however, many are not and cyclists have very little regard for other road users so don't bother whether they blind or not, as long as they are OK. |

Your photo is at close quarters to be fair but I don't doubt it will be brighter. To be honest I didn't get this pocket sized torch expecting great performance. I just wanted a decent torch for when walking the dogs on footpaths when it is dark. The performance of the torch is unreal for what I expected. More than up to the job. I never see any cars on my night bike rides, so I can point it where I want. It's a balance between seeing where your going and being seen on the bike at night. I can quite easily do a 40 mile ride at night and not see a single car

You could always try one of these on the maglite - http://thetorchsite.co.uk/TerraLUX_TLE-310...1M-Ex.html

I've had a mini key-ring size LED Lenser for 3 years now (it's a 7830). So hard wearing - looks like it is carved from a solid block! Santa brought me a Hocus-Focus Police model. Stunning performance from such a compact torch. Surprisingly weighty too on its lanyard if the need arises 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I have had a Maglight for a few years but find it too heavy to carry around so it ends up left in my LR

I've just got an Ultrafire Cree torch. It is miles ahead of my Maglite. The light it gives out is unreal, and it's very compact.
