I wonder if it's something simple like the earth lead? Many posts on here about it. There will be a lead to the gear box, might just be loose? It's worth a look? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

If it's a 2007, like profile says, it could be a sensor from the Haldex.

Does the local garage (I'm assuming they're not a LR dealer?) have the necessary equipment to check all the relevant systems for fault codes? I'd have thought there would be faults logged for this kind of problem, which would point you in the right direction.

They are a 4x4 specialists but not a specific dealer. They have diagnostic equipment but to what level I don't know - I need to check that! 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE in Sumatra Black. 38,000 miles. There's a few posts on here ranging from poor battery, software upgrade, haldex oil/pump. To me it's very coincidental that's the error message has come up since your clutch/dmf job. Hopefully it will be something simple, loose wire etc. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I hope its something simple too!! Unfortunately finding these simple problems/loose connections or broken wires often takes an immense amount of time, as its trial and error despite all these modern fault finding gadgets. Having said all that I still wouldn't change to another make of 4x4. 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE in Sumatra Black. 38,000 miles. Unfortunately I still have the problem! I get the error message normally within a few minutes of setting off. The garage has been working their way round all the connections to various sensors but to no avail. I even took it in just minutes after the message came up and left the engine running yet their diagnostic machine didn't even show a fault code on the transmission system!!

It will be running effectively in front wheel drive with the Haldex disengaging drive to the rear wheels. In normal driving you won't notice a difference, but in situations where the car would normally engage 4WD you're likely to find that doesn't happen. You're not going to run into ice or snow at this time of year, but beware of wet grassy slopes and mud! Regarding fault codes and diagnostics, a basic fault code reader will be able to read only a few of the main modules in the car - others will require equipment which is aware of them and knows how to read them. Your independent may not have the necessary equipment from the sound of it - I'd be surprised if there aren't faults logged somewhere. |

LandyGeezer, I use the Parkside Garage in Huddersfield. Mick the owner is LR apprenticed trained, worked at Rocar Moores for nearly 20 years. It might be worth phoning/paying a visit? http://www.theparksidegarage.co.uk/
