Since having a new DMF, clutch and slave cylinder fitted my car developed an intermittent message - 'Transmission Fault. Reduced Traction'. This then disappeared for a few weeks but is now back with a vengeance as it occurs within a few minutes of setting off - every time! At the same time the terrain selector light goes off under whichever symbol is lit and it becomes inoperative.

The local garage doesn't seem to know where to look now having checked a number of sensor connections and found no fault. Unfortunately scratching their heads and 'tutting' doesn't help me get it fixed.

Has anyone had this message before and if so what was the problem please? Any ideas as to what/where to check would be very gratefully received. 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE in Sumatra Black. 38,000 miles. If it's a 2007, like profile says, it could be a sensor from the Haldex.

Does the local garage (I'm assuming they're not a LR dealer?) have the necessary equipment to check all the relevant systems for fault codes? I'd have thought there would be faults logged for this kind of problem, which would point you in the right direction.

In addition to the Haldex itself, problems with the wheel sensors and their wiring can cause this, and various other systems input to the transmission control systems too. There are a number of other threads on transmission problems, so a search may yield further information.

There's a few posts on here ranging from poor battery, software upgrade, haldex oil/pump. To me it's very coincidental that's the error message has come up since your clutch/dmf job. Unfortunately finding these simple problems/loose connections or broken wires often takes an immense amount of time, as its trial and error despite all these modern fault finding gadgets. Unfortunately I still have the problem! I get the error message normally within a few minutes of setting off. The garage has been working their way round all the connections to various sensors but to no avail. I even took it in just minutes after the message came up and left the engine running yet their diagnostic machine didn't even show a fault code on the transmission system!!
I am going on a short motoring holiday this weekend so I will just have to put up with it until I get back - the strange thing is that although it seems to turn off the terrain options when the error occurs it doesn't seem to affect the driving functions at all.
I will have to either take it to a main dealer (and foot the enormous bill) or get a specialist auto electrician in to have a look.
