United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey
Short Time Owner

Hi everyone,

I thought it was about time that I introduced myself. Since joining I have utilised the forum and learned a lot after firstly obtaining a 2007 SE for my son after his X-Trail had been written off by a shunt in the back then a short while later trading in my old works S-Max for another 2007 HSE with the HST kit. It has already been a bit of a roller coaster ride with the first jobs on each being to replace the power steering fluid reservoirs and double flushing the systems on both cars which at the moment are now operating as they should. On my lads one I have also fitted a new rear wiper motor which after stripping it apart was totally siezed up inside. The biggest issue however was a sun roof failure on the HSE which resulted in a new glass sliding panel. Interestingly I took it it to a main dealer and also a roof specialist who both said it would require a complete new roof at huge cost however as a retired engineer I thought no way and eventually I found a Freelander specialist fairly local to me who did a cracking job sorting it out and who I will use when neccessary in the future as the knowledge base, ability and service was superb. Both cars have a relatively high mileage although they are both from motorway use and an excellent service history however with all the potential issues that seem to exist I am now looking at some areas of preventative maintenance with the first two being the condition of the cam-belts and the swirl flaps on the inlet manifolds.
Despite all this, we both love the Freelanders which are great to drive but I certainly would not want to relinquish my Subaru Forester which although more thirsty and less comfortable is also very capable and reliable.
Anyway, great forum and long may it continue.

Just added a couple of pics to the gallery. The number plate came with the car which was a bonus. It is in very good condition and appears not to have had a hard life in any way. I did think of adding the side steps like my sons but it reduces the ground clearance too much and makes it difficult to get the trolley jack under the front end as I found out when I was sorting out his power steering issue. It is a manual gearbox version and I will be towing an unbraked camping trailer with a max load rating of 750Kg so I will have to wait and see if there are any issues. I have had various 4wd vehicles over the years but this is my first LR and my initial thoughts are that it is a shame that they appear to have quite a few potential issues as they are a brilliant vehicle when they are going well. I was going to get a Subaru Legacy Outback before I drove my sons. I really do like the Freelander and so does my wife so we will just have to wait and see how it pans out.

I hope that your ownership goes smoothly and that you enjoy the car. I have owned mine for just over a year and the car itself has covered 24,000 miles (September 2011). It's been faultless and I'm really enjoying it. I have just returned from a 2000 mile trip to Spain and France which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Thumbs Up
