SAT NAV

Has anyone had a message come up saying that there is "slow traffic ahead" and an option to change route? This keeps coming on screen even when the sat nav is not being used. Can anyone tell me how to cancel it? Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

To me it sounds like you have a route set but its on mute as traffic afaik does not alert you otherwise....

I have given up trying to figure out how to use the sat nav. I've even looked into replacing the thing with a 7" touchscreen with Wi-Fi, etc etc.... I've spent longer trying to get it to do simple things than it takes me to get to near where I want to be and then figure the rest out myself.

At the moment, it wants to be a compass, so I switch the thing off altogether and stick my TomTom up as that also has a speed readout.

It's not the best SATNAV in the world, but once you get used to the menu system it's not too bad. My biggest criticism is that it is reluctant to re-calculate a route if you deviate from the planned one.

I was in the middle of the Yorkshire moors last summer, with not a car in sight for miles. It came up with the "slow traffic ahead" alert. I suppose it might have been a stationary sheep. Thumbs Up garioch43

That's its main downfall along with the three routes it chooses, one is pretty straight forward, the other two just seem to deviate to be different, even crossing over the first choice a number of times. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

my one experience of saying yes to an offer to re-route because of slow traffic ahead taught me to never do it again! The new route took me in a very major detour that involved driving across a good part of London whilst trying to get from Harwich to the West Country. I reckon to take my chances with the slow traffic in future!

RTFM, the get out of jail card for those who accept crap UI. Millions of pounds worth of UI R&D and RTFM still equates to UAFM or UAFTomTom.

RTFM is for troubleshooting and never an excuse for incoherent UI programming. QWERTY keypad anyone? You shouldn't have to work too much out as they're supposed to be 'user friendly' remember? For example, my merc benz; you can speak commands and locations to it. Another example, I didn't get a manual with my iPhone or iMac and they're far more complicated devices. Reason being, good old R&D thought of mostly everything I paid them to do.

Thanks...and I never needed either manual in all the years I have owned those devices.

The 2013 FL2 I had on loan was an updated version of my 2009 FL2 in many ways, the satnav being one of them. My attitude is that when I need something, I don't want to be RTFMing in depth before using it. If its not intuitively enough designed, the manual is bound to be a hefty tome to read and I'll find an easier way. It's what separates us from the machines.
