I've finally started trying to sort a spare wheel, jack, etc., after only 12 months.... I'm not a fan of repair kits, especially when towing the caravan. How did you all go about this? Buy a complete kit, off EBay / dealer etc.? Buy the wheel 2nd hand, then source a jack etc.? How much did it cost to buy a clamping bolt? (I don't think there is a one in the wheel well, & I'm at work, so can't have a quick look)

It's a very wise view to buy a spare wheel and jack.

If I was you, I'd buy the 4 wheels and stick the other three individually on eBay to turn a profit to pay for the jack and clamp.

When I bought mine I only had the goo, I asked the dealer nicely if I could have a full size spare wheel as I tow and the goo doesn't help sidewall tears, and I don't really want to the leave the kids at the road side very long, and today he dropped in a nice steel spare with tyre, jack and brace.

I specified the spare when I ordered my Freelander. The sales chap was surprised, said hardly any customers do that. 2020 Defender D200 110S Pangea Green

Hi denpet, no, these days you may get a space saver but more than likely you get goo, or nothing. Mine was a used one so I didn't have the choice of ordering when new. You can specify a full sized spare when ordering, think they're about £150-£180 for one that matches the alloys on the fitted wheels.

Took me 6 months to get a spare wheel sorted. Kept my mince pies peeled and dropped on a 17" alloy (doesn't match) from a member on here.

The wheels themselves can be quite cheap - they ask more if it comes with a new or nearly new tyre, but you don't need a new one for the spare, so long as it's legal. I've bought wheels singly off e-bay, and also as a set (I sold on the ones I didn't want with no problem on here, got back what I paid). Probably the two options I would go for now are:

For added reassurance, I'm sure I read in the manual (yes, I read it once) that Land Rover Assist will attend to a puncture if you only have the gunk from purchase for up to three years FOC. |
