What polishing machine do you use ?

I want to spend about £50 on an electric polisher so I thought I'd enquire which one you guys are using, good points, bad points etc. I would prefer mains powered rather than using the car's 12v supply. Are they fairly idiot proof ?

Before you comment ...

Yes I know it's a LR and they are supposed to get dirty
Because it looks better when it's clean
Yes I have got too much time on my hands
Because I get knackered polishing by hand.

I use meguiers G220.v2 but you will need another £150 ish and then pads on top

Thanks Nick. I am starting to think buy cheap buy twice here but I can't really justify spending that. I am hoping for a mid market machine that will cut the mustard. _________________

Maybe a little more spent will save money by buying once

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/cat_68.html

I spent a lot on mine but only use it about once a year on each car, thought I would use it more though at the time but doing correctly takes a very long time using foam pads, the last time it was a breeze using the meguiers DA microfiber polishing system, well worth it and fool proof or as near as Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I use the DAS 6 Pro from the company in npinks link. Predominantly use a finishing pad with Poorboys Black Hole.

Did a Merc C230 today and got a fantastic finish with my dual action topped with a wax. I've also got the Auto Finesse pads and polish kit.

Mines a 2011, I only use Werkstat Acrylic Jett trigger spray, it is a sealant type product that builds up and fills the scratches, the shine is awesome.
I can't see the fun in machine polishing a clearcoat lacquer, machines were for old cellulose paint that dulled and bloomed, clearcoat is easy to fix.

Seriously, I can do the whole car with the trigger spray in an hour easily and the result is the car looks 'wet' the shine is so good. At £17 quid for a 500ml bottle it's not cheap but goes a long long way, much cheaper than a polisher that will eventually wear through the clearcoat.

Just my own observations Thumbs Up

Clear coats is what brings out the paint beneath, if the clear is marred and swirled your not going to see the paint pop

I have loads of swirls on my car, when washed it looks clean and I'm happy with that at the moment, I have to be as I don't have time to do anything about it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

That's why the acrylic sealer works well, it fills the clearcoat and the flakes 'pop' Rolling Eyes

I'm of the same opinion and am careful about clear coat .....but, I do like tickling out my scratches from catching hedges or the odd mysterious mark!! 90% of the time I just use a finishing pad with no cut to skip over the whole car with minimal effort filling swirls and light scratches with black hole.

Werkstatt will be my next investment, do you use the prime etc or just the acrylic jett? 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

Taz, looking at what you are using, is there loads of muscle required ? The instructions to spray on and wipe off sounds too easy. I have shoulder injuries and waxing on and off by hand nearly kills me, hence why I am considering a polisher. _________________

I have used just the Jett and Glos which is a quick detailer spray.
Toeknee has used prime and swears by it, it is sold as a system and I recently tried to get a group buy deal but Polished Bliss were very blunt with the NO they gave me.
It has been on offer in the past, buy 2 get one free which makes it more affordable, the bottles are only 500ml but it really does go a long way. I won't use anything else now.
Tried it on the wife's Meriva, which gets washed a few times a years with an old rag and is swirled to death, I was amazed how many it masked, obviously it doesn't remove them.
Try it, you will not be disappointed.

Each to their own Taz, my paint doesnt pop, it's just cream none Metalic so just the depth of gloss that can change, the werkstat kit is good though from what I have seen Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Aero, I have psoriatic arthritis in both wrists, I can't get lids off jars but polishing with Jett is quick and easy, sounds too good to be true, but anyone who has seen my car or used it will tell you what it is like.
