I need to get a thin wire from behind the glove compartment to the light switch area on the drivers side.

another method is to remove the trim round the radio .

Much better to use an electricians "fish Wire" which nowadays are not wire but plastic. Another advantage is that they also have an eye on one end to attach your new wire to it. Cable rod kits are good. Easy to push and pull cables through.
