Eco and running problems

My Freelander purchased new last May, the Eco system stop working for 4months and is know working (not sorted by dealership but started working again by its self), also since new on 5 occasions when I have started it, it shock violently as if trying to run on 2 cylinders you switch it off, restart it everything ok, it goes in Monday (dealership said they are going to remove the gear box to inspect or replace the fly wheel sensor), the car is manual, has anybody out there experience the same sort of problems. To date the dealership and Landrover have no idea what the problem is on both this and the Eco

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Lago Grey

Hi,

Although only owned our TD4-e manual since late March, we know what you mean about the stop/start not functioning, but......

The system is so complicated and depends on so many variables, I honestly think it is a characteristic. Not just climate and engine temperatures are involved but various other demands placed on the vehicle at any particular time.

Since the milder weather ours has operated reliably and regularly with great effect we feel on overall MPG, we do notice on occasion it will cut out at traffic lights, for instance, then restart before the green, we don't consider this to be any fault Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

I get the impression it is not one of the Freelanders strengths...... Mine has been fine this past few days of warm weather but today (cooler) has become erratic again. having spoken with my local L/R specialist I have decided it's mot worth wirrying about. eh tu?

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Zermatt Silver

I have a manual my11 with this Eco stop start thing, I thought I had it sussed but on a recent trip into Sheffield it would cut out as expected but then restart within a couple if seconds, I spoke to Martin, service manager at gs Sheffield who explained that there are so many variables that the car monitors that if the cars sensors
Detects something outside set parameters it will restart or not even turn off.

I have found that heavy traffic will confuse it, really cold, air con, short trips, so now if I hit heavy traffic I turn it off also I use ggs setting if in heavy slow traffic this turns off the Eco setting.

Hope this helps, I find the system works quite well on the whole. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

My 2011 GS Eco worked fine until last week when we had the warm weather. The manual says the engine has to be warm before the Eco works. Mine now cuts in when the engine is cold. Also it doesn't work at all when towing my caravan. It doesn't bother me that it has decided to not conform.

Freelander 2 starting problems

Thanks for the replies to the Eco part, but my biggest concern is when it starts up it runs as though it is firing on 2 cylinders and shakes violently turn it off, restart it, working ok, this has happened 5 times in the last year. Has anybody out there experienced the same. (manual)

My Eco Stop/Start works fine virtually all the time and when it restarts the engine sounds fine. If yours sounds like only 2 cylinders on restart I suspect there is a problem which may come up as a fault but more probably won't. A trip to a Dealer may be required for it to be checked.

My Eco last worked around December. It would stop the engine then after a couple of seconds start back up. I do a few short journeys a day so i'm thinking the battery is not fully charged? Who knows, there are so many variables involved maybe the wind in Huddersfield is blowing in the wrong direction? Whistle

On the subject of the engine vibrating and sounding rough, there is a thread on here some where about something similar whereby the cylinders are firing in the wrong order. Maybe this is something similar? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

On the subject of the stop start, I read on another forum that the ECU might need resetting. Yesterday I disconnected the battery and touched the wires together. The stop/start still didn't work. BUT on my way home from work tonight the stop/start just started working! Dont know if its related to the ECU reset or not, but atleast its working again! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Mine stop working for 2 days after a service then started working again and now after a trip to the panel-beaters (after some young kid texting went into the back of me) it hasn't worked now for a week.

Strange thing with my stop start this week! I disconnected the battery as I read the ECU might require a reboot as the stop start hadn't worked for months. I worked a couple of times last week. On Monday the van at work had a flat battery, I jumped it off my FL2, the stop start is working non stop now!! I had the car hooked upto the van for about 15 minutes so i'm wondering if this has charged my battery in someway? Now the strange thing I've noticed today in traffic is that I don't need the hand brake to be on for the engine to turn its self off when stationary. Is this right? I though you needed the handbrake to be on? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Hi,

Just to confirm, as far as driver input is concerned you need to be stationary and foot off the clutch only. use or not use of the hand or foot brake makes no difference! Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

Phew Kola!! Thought for a moment there was something wrong with my handbrake!! Must admit, last couple of days the stop start has worked the best since I bought it a year ago, I'm quite impressed! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
