Taking out Spare

Can't seem to find if this subject been covered: Sorry if repeated :

Thinking of taking out full size spare putting in puncher kit?

Has any one done this and what did you replace with ?

If so did it work? Iain

My understand of using to much Fuel: to much stuff and weight in boot = hi fuel use..

So was thinking of Taking out Spare to reduce weight ,when I'm loaded up with diving cylinders and kit. But would need some thing just in case..

Does this make sense or over thinking?

Sorry not looking to swap would want to keep for when not diving.. Iain

Ahh, got you Thumbs Up
Yes that makes sense as a temporary measure when you need the space, there must be kits available here and on the 'bay' as many are getting rid for spare wheels.

Can't see that there would be much gain in fuel though, a woman's handbag weighs nearly as much as a spare wheel Laughing seriously a minute change in driving conditions would lose what you thought you had gained in any MPG

This was one of the reason why I got FR2 ,for my diving to get to some hard spots..

Had a kit for motor bike green slime stuff, work great. Now looking for FR2

Yes open to idea what kits is out there? and whats been tried and tested..

Weight of spare = 2 cylinders... so take out the spare counter act's the weight of the 2 cylinder normally I carry 6 of them Iain

The real world difference in mpg by carry a spare or not would be negligible. It's not even worth considering. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Could also reduce weight by removing unused seats And over inflate the tyres to make the car lighter.

Does OP mean using a can of sealer that inflates the tyre too ? Im pretty sure its just about impossible to get them repaired and its new tyre time.

I wouldn't bother if your concerned about weight you may have bought the wrong car lol Razz When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

I see your point but you have to consider when you get a flat tyre say, its happens not to be repairable with the inflation kit, so you have to wait for the recovery folk to come along and collect it, its freezing cold so you may as well keep the engine running to keep the family warm whilst you wait and listen to the mrs moaning about you penny pinching ideas, by the time the recovery get there youve used up all the fuel youve saved not having a spare and thinking about the divorce cost, its not worth it mate believe me!!
