Sounds as though you have not got the genuine LR Towing Module fitted, hence the trailer indicator light not working, as you have the beep in the boot this points to an aftermarket kit fitted. |

But if you have the genuine electrics you don't have the indicator beep as you have the trailer indicator light? |

Genuine can be a third party dedicated wiring loom, not necessarily LR derived.

You have the beep or the indicator warning light, the OP has a beep as the warning device so no indicator warning light. |

cg i do not think i will need to do that, had a x-trail before and had no issues with towing so i am sure my fl2 will surpass. |

Does the trailer stability assist only work when the fl2 picks up the trailer/caravan is connected via the electric plug? So not if the trailer dash light is not illuminating?

Yes, when you connect the light plug, the indicator would flash on the genuine LR electrics, the rear fogs on the towcar would be disabled, on a manual that's about it, on an Auto it will hang on to the gears a bit longer, it has been said that changes to the brake system are made but the jury is still out on that one..
