Freelander 2 2007 diesel manual - message appearing on dash

Can anyone advise me re a message appearing on my Freelander 2 2007 which says transmission fault traction reduced. this message appears not long after starting. Many thanks for any help here, I have not owned the vehicle for long.

Unfortunately you really do need to get the codes read, and not by a basic OBDII reader as these only read engine / emissions related codes.

It can be something as simple as a faulty ABS wheel sensor, or it could be something as expensive as a failing Haldex unit.
A failing battery will also throw up random faults even though it starts the car OK. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

I was getting the same (amber warning) message that appeared almost immediately after starting and remained lit until shut down. I had no gearbox programmes available but the car drove quite normally (2WD) whilst the warning was illuminated.

At the same I had a totally inoperative n/s front door lock module... I tried to repair it by cleaning up the motors and when I reinstalled that it still didn't work properly but the gearbox fault warning became much less immediate...

I then fitted a shiny new lock module which cured the locking problem but even better, much much better in fact, the gearbox fault warning instantly disappeared and hasn't been seen since.

The car is driving delightfully, the gearbox programmes are all active and I have all my fingers crossed as I say that. To me there is no rhyme or reason to some of these warnings Question

As mentioned, for a proper check you need to get the vehicle plugged in, however worth a try in between now and getting it plugged in, charge the battery to rule out a low battery which does throw up messages sometimes. 2007 TD4 XS Manual in Sumatra Black

I had this issue when I had a failing wheel bearing. Rectified once the bearing was replaced. As said you really need a garage to read the codes.

Please update us once you find out what the problem is as it may help somebody else

Also you should check if the car has the extra earth cable fitted I used to get that message until I fitted a good quality cable.
