After 5000 miles, I was told that I needed 1/2 a litre at a complimentary Healthcheck. At vast expense, I might add! I'm now just coming up to 8000 miles, so will have a look at the weekend, but my dipstick says all is well currently. Foraging near Gaydon....

I think I have had to top up twice in 3 years, 30,000 miles. About 1/2 litre each time and only at about 9-10 months after the service. So no, no real loss. |

My wife and I both have Freelanders (MY10 and MY11) and never had to top them up. Consequently we now have quite a collection of 'complementary' oil in the garage (1ltr bottle received after each service) |

Previous FL2 used a bit of oil - as much as a litre every 6 months. This one hasn't been topped up in 9 months. Checked the other day and all fine |

Mine is at 45,000 now and have ticked the up to a litre option, although in reality it has used 0.5 litre over that 45,000 |

Haven't had mine long enough but the dipstick seems to have been designed to mask any oil usage. |

The spiral design is supposed to stop the dipstick rubbing against the side of its channel and thus obscuring the reading. Many cars are like that these days.

I could say no it's a freebie but somewhere in that massive service bill its paid for ![]() Of interest to those with a DPF, driving style and the DPF re-generation have the possibility to dilute the engine oil with diesel so an oil loss could be masked by a top up of diesel in the sump ![]() |

Well I wouldn't put that in my DPF car, that spec is for a non DPF. |
