Oil Consumption

So how's your oil consumption Question
I have now had two services since new and 29,800 miles covered, I also have the two unopened 1L bottles of engine oil the dealer leaves in the car after each service.

It just never consumes any oil from one year to the next, is it the norm for you also or are you topping up regularly Question
Don't forget to put your mark in the poll Thumbs Up

After 5000 miles, I was told that I needed 1/2 a litre at a complimentary Healthcheck. At vast expense, I might add! I'm now just coming up to 8000 miles, so will have a look at the weekend, but my dipstick says all is well currently. Foraging near Gaydon....

I think I have had to top up twice in 3 years, 30,000 miles. About 1/2 litre each time and only at about 9-10 months after the service. So no, no real loss.

Only had mine a month but checked yesterday and it was quite high on the dipstick.
Slight thread hijack but my dipstick blade is a loose spiral shape, is it designed to be like that or has someone mistakenly thought that it unscrews rather than pulling straight out and ended up knackering it?

My wife and I both have Freelanders (MY10 and MY11) and never had to top them up. Consequently we now have quite a collection of 'complementary' oil in the garage (1ltr bottle received after each service)

It's meant (for some reason Confused ) to be like that. As a result, when I check the engine oil level, it takes me 3 or 4 attempts to get a reading I can reliably discern... Mad

There must be some knack I'm not privy to... ...

Previous FL2 used a bit of oil - as much as a litre every 6 months. This one hasn't been topped up in 9 months. Checked the other day and all fine

Mine is at 45,000 now and have ticked the up to a litre option, although in reality it has used 0.5 litre over that 45,000

Haven't had mine long enough but the dipstick seems to have been designed to mask any oil usage. Confused

The spiral design is supposed to stop the dipstick rubbing against the side of its channel and thus obscuring the reading. Many cars are like that these days.

As for oil consumption I've not needed to add any to mine, but I've had it for less than 10k miles so that's not saying much.

I could say no it's a freebie but somewhere in that massive service bill its paid for Laughing

Of interest to those with a DPF, driving style and the DPF re-generation have the possibility to dilute the engine oil with diesel so an oil loss could be masked by a top up of diesel in the sump Shocked I did send a sample of mine away to be analysed (free through work contact) and mine was OK, but the software calculation allows up to 7% diesel mixture in the sump before warning you of an early oil change.

Well I wouldn't put that in my DPF car, that spec is for a non DPF.
