My FL2 (MY 2010) has just over 30k miles on it now & I've never turned the stop/start off. No problems whatsoever with it. I believe the battery & starter motor are upgraded to cope with the additional ware & tear. |

So far so good in the first 1200 miles; it sometimes stays on when I expect it to stop and then it stops when I don't expect it (like soon after start). I'll be able to work out the fuel economy differences soon (48.9 average tank to tank over 86,000 miles or 40.1 if you average all the trip meter readings). New stop-starter is 39.3, 42.3 and 41.0 on the first 3 fills.

Non automotive boffins have done studies on whether stop start reduces fuel, from memory it does reduce fuel even though some is used to restart the car. If the below link works this was a test using non stop start and a stop start freelander.

I leave mine set to on, but at the moment it rarely kicks in. Someone told me, it needs to switch off for about 3 to 5 seconds and then your saving.

I use it all the time but as the temp here is mostly over 35c at this time of the year, it doesn't kick in.

Mines has never been much use. Most of the time it either doesnt switch off the motor, or if it does it restarts again after 30 odd seconds and then wont switch off again. (Coming) 2016 RR Evoque td4 180 HSE Dynamc

Stop start doesn't make it more efficient to the tune of 20%.

Glad you explained that, I'm not very good with the tech. It's a good improvement though and I say well done to land rover considering the car is so heavy. I find land rovers claimed fuel estimates for the manual are spot on if you live where there are few hills, 45 mpg is easily achievable in Kent. I was surprised to find I could only get 31mpg from an auto fl2 courtesy car but 34 from a range rover sport loaner which was a bit of a shock. |
