winter tyre grip spray

when getting my windsreen chip sorted last night, they gave me a leaflet and on it was a list of snowy condition stuff like ice melt and shovels and snow chains

what caught my eye was a can of spray stuff called winter tyre grip, apparently you can spray it on and it give you temporary extra grip Confused

Before someone mentions, it is no substitute for winter tyres, 4 wheel drive, snow chains or even going out, just an emergency measure.

I've never heard of it either, if it does what it says on the tin then for an emergency it could get someone out of a nogo situation.
Reading the 'data sheet' I can just imagine someone with a fag in their mouth using it Shocked Laughing

i just watched the video, seemed to use higher revs in the no grip version, obviously lost traction due to it

but if its a case of digging out or pushing by some other road user this might help some one get home or atleast to a safe stopping place, unlike a farmers field Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Dont think i would use it considering the cost of rubber for the Freelander,im sure it will say it wont harm tyres but in scepitcal.

Maybe I should get some - terrain response, winter tyres, and I'm still snowed in! Tried to get up my drive again yesterday and made about half a dozen yards before sliding back down again. Interestingly it was the terrain response which ultimately stopped me - it seemed to be reducing power / applying the brakes until the car just ground to a halt. No discernable wheelspin at all, and until that point I was still making progress. I'd have tried again without TR, but the rate I slipped back convinced me that I didn't want to risk doing that from any higher up the slope!

Turn off DSC and try it, that is what is killing the power

You probably know this anyway but DSC should be turned off in a lot of difficult start/slow speed situations and switched back on ASP.
While playing around last week in car park my throttle was against the floor with only a tickover showing and I wasn't going anywhere until I turned it off.

EDIT: Didn't post fast enough Laughing

Yep, I do know the DSC trick - but given how slippery it really was, and given the very solid stone house at the bottom of the slope, I decided to play it safe Smile

I was actually only trying it to test the TR and the tyres - I really didn't expect to get up. In the 15 years we've lived here I've learned that most 4x4s won't get half as far even with half the snow on the ground, so the FL2 didn't do too badly!

Choice now is a lot of hard work with a shovel, or hibernation. I think I'll opt for the latter.

Thanks CG - I've actually got a few bags in the garage, but I'd need to clear 70-ish yards of a good foot of snow to get out, and that would take a lorry load! Fortunately the village is less than a mile away, so I can easily walk up if we run out of anything vital. After 15 years we're used to this!
