Sheep ummm, Im not so sure... Question Question
They are developing the Evoque XL and to be a mule, it has all the camouflage like a car almost ready to production.
In my opinion, it´s the RR Evoque XL Idea Yuri

You can pretty much ignore the photos - that body is just a lash-up to test some running gear. Look at the rear end, particularly around the wheel arches - you can clearly see where bits have just been patched in. The back-end hacking does suggest, though, that we may be looking at something longer than the Evoque. I suspect everything that's interesting about this mule is hidden beneath the skin.

Agree with pab.
The car will look nowt like the photo; it's all done to fool everyone.
Take no notice of it.

I saw that actual car in the flesh today. It is not an Evoque XL, it is not a Freelander 3.

It is mule made up of all sorts of panels testing new running gear for the Next Freelander as mentioned in the article. So don't read too much into what it is and isn't.

The fact is, its nothing that will make production. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I imagine pretty much everything that is not visible on that mule will make production!

Now they're testing the parts and systems that will be on it, the underpinnings will be almost identical to what we get on the new one. There will be vehicles in existence with an almost finalised body on also. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

I've got to agree with G4LAND at least for images 1-7 (8-14 is definitely an Evoque 'monster' mule). For images 1-7 though the roof line, A-post curve, bonnet line as it meets the front wing, etc are all too polished and unique (i.e. not from anything else) - to me I also agree it doesn't look that far off production…

The question is what is it??

The press is full of how the new Freelander is going to be a Baby Disco, and that there is going to be a 'Discovery Family'. If this is correct then this can't be the new Baby Disco - It's too much like the Range Rover family in looks (the curved roof line falling at the back, flared head-lights, wheel arch trim, etc)…

I'm plumbing for it being an RR Evoque XL… Otherwise the new Discovery Brand is going to be a brand in name, not looks!

On the other hand, what do I know…??? I loved the DC100!!! Shocked

As said. Pics number 8 onwards is a mule based on an enlarged Evoque body. Don't even read anything in to how it looks. They have several mules with different styling while they try out different things.

It means absolutely nothing.

But the first 7 pictures are an early prototype of the Freelander replacement, so now we all know what the shape is roughly like. As we all know as well, it will be under the Discovery brand as well.

One name being banded about is Discovery Sport to replace the Freelander. Whether that happens who knows. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Discovery Sport?? Sounds logical, and from the general shape would seem fitting…

Perhaps a little wishful thinking on my behalf that it's an Evoque XL. Partly as it would mean LR getting one over on the Autocar/AutoExpress/etc who also seem to think it's the Freelander replacement. But also as this prototype does seem very sporty. One of the reasons we have two Landrover's, Freelander 2 and Discovery, rather than two Range Rovers, Evoque & Sport, is that though they have the comfort and luxury to (nearly) match, they look and feel more '4x4 go-anyway' with their upright windscreens, stepped roof-lines, upright seats, etc.

That being said Gerry McGovern is 'The Man'. Love the current Freelander, the new Ranger Rover family and the DC100… I'm sure whatever comes out we'll be buying... Thumbs Up

There will be a larger Evoque anyway at some point in the next 18 months. So every one is a winner. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
