Snow tyres on same rims or buy new ones

Hi,

I was wondering, is it ok to put snow tyres on the existing rims, or buy new rims, put the tyres on them and use them just for that. What I am concerned, is if it is bad for the tyres to put them then get them off the rim every winter/spring, when replacing the winter/summer tyres?

My advice is to buy new rims. Because you need smaller rims for the winter tyres.
I have 18" rims for my summer tyres, but 16" rims for my winter tyres.

Strongly recomend you do the same. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

gorjant, you need new rims for winter tyres. Swapping tyres on the same rim will not work very long. Winter tyres also tend to have a larger wall than summer tyres. Despite the initial expense having two full sets is not a bad idea because the mileage is shared between them. - Mike
