Software Version in ECU?

Does anyone know if there is a way to see the current software version in your car? I had my dealer update mine as I dont think it had been done in a while. I'm hoping it solves a few of my DPF issues... but lets see.

Is there a list anywhere of what software revisions there are and what they fix exactly? Like what you see on the App store with your iPhone when there is a software update?

I'm not hopeful but then you never know.

Cheers,
Knoxy

Hi bigalf,

Yes I posted something about the tool as I picked one up on eBay. It's the OBD-II Bluetooth tools for your iPhone. It works for the most part to clear the messages for the dpf full but not always. And it doesn't reset or force the dpf regeneration you need the garage to do that for you with their proper tool.

Thanks for the heads up though.

You're not the only ones who would be interested in this, I would too, but I don't know how to do it which was your original question. It would presumably need some appropriate piece of hardware to plug in to the car, but I know not what that would be, nor where to get the information on available updates. Manufacturers don't seem that willing to give out this kind of information, for some reason.

I can't blame VM's for trying to make things difficult for one minute.

Well since we are talking about freedom to access and change!

I find it unacceptable that I have paid for and legally own my Freelander, but LR prevent my access to the ECU and prevent my making any alterations Neutral

Any comments from LR?

As you have an EDC16 engine ECU, go to a chiptuner and have him read the engine ECU software through the OBD port. You'll see then the version of the software inside.

yeah lets see if we can find the worlds first open source ECU software... not sure it would fly but could be interesting... there are probably some health and safety regulations that prohibit it... Rolling with laughter

So it would be okay for BA to delve into Boeing or Airbus software Question Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

It might be a good thing to have an open version. Obviously you need strict quality assurance and testing in place when it comes to things like this where lives are at stake but it would be interesting for people to see whats been changed and maybe for a community version to be able to contribute fixes and improvements that may not have been priority for the main stream to be implemented.

You can always make your own ECU...
The hardware is there, on the car (injectors, actuators, sensors, etc), you'll only need to design an ECU - microcontroller to read the sensors, command drivers for the actuators and injectors and so on.
Then you'll design your own software for the chosen microcontroller with proper maps for injection, advance and so on and there you go, ready to go to warp!
Nobody will stop you to run your car with your own designed ECU...

Here's a start... http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html
It's made for gasoline, but it's not hard to adapt. Very Happy
It will be a little tricky with the drivers for the piezo injectors as they need about 150V, so you'll need to build a good step up converter, but then all will fall into place. Laughing
