Towing Electrics - Confused!

I've searched on this topic but got thoroughly confused by the range of information and opinions.

Has anyone got experience of fiiting the Right Connections single towing electrics kit part number 19190510RC .

My main confusion is over the need for a mod/download to the electronics.

I have a 2009 SE.

I also have single electrics with dedicated loom.

As you are fitting the dedicated wiring loom, then it is a simple plug in job to existing sockets.

If options have not been turned on before then there are Disable reverse sensors, disable fog lights (rear), dashboard trailer lamp turned on that also monitors bulb failure, your auto box will be re-mapped for optimum towing.

Some or all of these options may well be turned on, if not then expect to pay a dealer an hours labour. Also after towing you will notice it can take a while for your auto to return to solo driving while it re-learns your style.

on both my 56 and 10 plate Fl2, the electrics did not work on either of the cars until the dealer did the programming

Thanks for the replies.

pcheaven, can you please be more specific about exactly which electrics did not work prior to programming. I presume the normal car electrics were unaffected.

HI There
We have fitted right connection single electrics to our 09 manual and 11 plate SD4 both work fine only thing is that when reverseing the park sensor sounds. If you can put up with that all is fine

RichLech,

When I fitted twin socket electrics using the genuine LR electric module nothing worked on the trailer electrics, not even the lights and indicators. The electrics on the vehicle itself were not affected. I had to get a dealer reprogram done free when it was in for a recall.

It seems to be inconsistent what initially works with the LR module. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.
- GCS Hawke - Sports, BRG, Vulcan 2.1 inj'. My toy - built it myself in 2001.

Agreed, very odd.

I've just fitted a twin electric dedicated kit from PF Jones. The trailer lights including the trailer light on the dash are all working. The rear parking sensors still operate and so do the fog lights cause I haven't had it programmed yet. But it all worked out of the box for me.

That is encouraging. The kits sold by PF Jones are Right Connections kits so that is two examples of their kits being fitted without the need for immediate re-programming.

Thanks for the replies.
