I am running the same configuration as you with the iPhone mounted into the cubby and powered thru the cig socket. I understand there is a LR adaptor to give you the music functionality, but dont know of any workaround... Yet. 2012 DISCOVERY 4 GS AUTO ORKNEY GREY

It's an Audio Connectivity System. Details can be found on Page 52 of the current Freelander 2 brochure.

Alternatively use Siri! Just pull the steering wheel telephone control until you get a beep (as if you were dialling using a voice tag) and say a Siri command - "Play [album Title], Next track....etc
