Info on Tyres - May be helpful?

This was posted on another site but I am sure it causes no problem to post here.

It is from a very reputable broker.

Winter Tyres

As winter approaches, some living in the wilder parts of our country may be preparing to fit winter tyres to there ?everyday car?. Whilst I am sure we all appreciate the benefit that this can bring, you may be surprised to know that some insurers require that you notify them, some regard this as an alteration/modification to the vehicle that needs to be advised. If the tyre is of the same size as the standard equipment there should be no change in premium change.

Most insurers do not insist you do this but there are some surprising and popular insurers contained in the following list.

Those insurers that we understand do require notification are:

AXA
Churchill
Citroen
Ecar
Egg
Mint/MBNA
Nat West
Octagon
Peugeot
Privilege
Provident
RBS
Royal London
Swift Cover
UKI

This information has been passed to us by the Association of British Insurers. If you are in any doubt please consult your own insurer.

It is doubtful that an insurer would attempt or be successful in denying a claim if they had not been advised, but it is better to advise them now, than to encounter any delay or difficulty should a claim arise. Obviously any tyre dimensions that exceed makers? specification (wider wheels/tyres) must be notified as a modification and may increase the premium whether they are winter tyres or not.

I would love to know how the insurers were going to get out of paying up if the tyres are on the vehicle manufacturers recommended list.
