You're right. Thumbs Up Each to his own.
I, for one, took it hard from day one, lots of hard accelerations - indeed, up to 3000 mark, no more.
And just hard enough quite because there is synthetic oil inside and to be able to shave off those microscopic irregularities in cylinders walls in spite of the oil.
And I can say that my engine, now after more than 25k miles, apparently doesn't eat oil at all.
At each service I put inside 6 liters of oil (5.9 says the book), the oil on the dipstick is 2-3 mm above max and at the next change the oil is at max. So the oil consumption is around 100 ml.

With all this 'knowledge' available to us now instantly, its very difficult for the ordinary person to make the right decision Alex.
A lot of times both sides of an argument/discussion sounds very reasonable and reads very technical, that we don't know which to believe so hope that whichever way we go, it is the right direction. Thumbs Up
I sort of did a bit of 'running in' and booted it a bit, hoping either one would help Laughing

Don't bother running it. Just don't labour the engine as this is worse that hammering a new engine.

I had my Audi 2.0 TDi brand new 2 months ago and I didn't run it in, just drove it normally. Inam now at 6000 miles and it has not used a drp of oil.

even Audi said I would need to add about a litre of fuel every 1000 miles or so for the first 4-5000 miles and gave a a bottle when I collected the car. It is still in the boot where they put it. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I am with you on this. I have had my FL2 for 5 years next week and she has covered 53000 miles and doesn't use a drop.

In contrast, a friend round the corner bought a new TD4 back in 2008 and took it gently for the first 3000 miles, not going above 1500 rpm and he use's about a litre of oil every 5-6000 miles.

Something to be said about not running in like in the past I think. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
