A good friend of mine is ex-motorway (M6) police officer and said they not infrequently towed artics with their RR to get them to a safer position. Jules

Thanks for the replies. Torque for 3.2 petrol is 317 Nm, 2.0 petrol is 340Nm.

From the replies here it sounds like there will be no problems pushing my 550kg boat backwards up hill and round a corner, using one of the auto petrol Freelanders. I've seen that they have reasonable articulation, and with four wheel drive there should be plenty of grip.

I'm not familiar with the Hill Start Assist feature. Can it be turned off? I'm old fashioned. I just release the handbrake as the car starts to pull off.

I have never used an electronic park brake either. The 3.2 Si6 models have a traditional brake lever, while the 2.0s have the electronic one.

I think I want to get the most recent model I can find, but I haven't seen a 3.2 newer than 2011.

I need to do more reading.

My torque has dropped a bit because I have larger diameter tyres. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

You can override the electronic control of the park brake simply by releasing the park brake while foot is on the brake.

But I don't see the point as it works brilliantly. Took me awhile to get used to not having to actually use the handbrake other than parking. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
