Speed Awareness Course

I've just received a fine from Merseyside Police for doing
58 in a 50 area at the end of the M62.

£60 fine and three points or £75 and no points but attend a
Speed Awareness Course for four hours, anyone been on one ?

United Kingdom

my dad went on one not so long ago after been caught doing just over the 40 mph speed limit

Quite an eye opener, no hold barred speed kills lecture he said, changed his driving style (for a while)

But £75 is cheaper than the £60 when you take in to account the insurance price rise for the next 4 years due to the point

Yes the one I did was quite good and the 4 hours went quickly, in fact the guys taking it were really good, pay the £75 it will work out cheaper over the next fees years, compared to imsurance premimums

Hi

Just done mine Sad

you will be bored shixless Sad

I think the 2 that took my couse were straight out of the Caravan club Laughing

It is far better to attend than having the points, there is a new policy that has just come out that insurance companies are starting to take into account your first 3 points!

Was caught doing 46 in a 40 (Woodbridge bypass if anyone knows it). Got to put my hands up and take the punishment – there were no excuses. I’m doing my course next week and am sort of looking forward to it after reading all the terms and conditions – no aggression, negativity, lack of participation etc…
I spoke with my insurer (didn’t give my name) and asked what their view was on three points, the off the record answer was that given a clear history they would most likely not worry about them and they did confirm that if you do the course and therefore receive no points you can tell them that you have no history of convictions.

Yes, I got caught in Bristol and had to do a round trip of 400 miles to attend the mornings course Mad , it meant leaving home at 4.00am to get there for a 9.00 am start. I had to take it because I already had points.

About 20 of us sat around in a circle, it was informal and you had to introduce yourself and explain your offence, also your reason why you committed it. No matter what the reason, the course tutor had an argument as to why you shouldn't have but it was all very friendly.
Light lunch was provided and basically it was a presentation with informal questions and answers. I didn't learn anything new, just to be more aware if I wasn't to be caught again (I missed a speed sign from 40mph to 30mph and was still doing 38mph), which I have been but I've lost the option for a course until the time period expires next year.

Don't you have to pay for the course in addition to the fine?

I was caught on the M60 they had a speed restriction of 50mph after it had been 70mph for a few years.

They then put cameras on it but not "live"

After another 2 years they went "live" catching 7000 motorist on the first day!

Well thats the rumour

I was doing 58mph Embarassed the car was up for sale so thought of saying it was out on a test drive.........

changed my mind when I went online and looked at the photographs! Shocked www.justgiving.com/toptobottomtractorrun

@Tony
No option at that time (over 2 years ago), Humberside weren't even in the scheme then. I believe the option to do it locally is now available.
I worried I might pick up a few more points just going down to it Laughing

I did the course in Bristol a couple of years ago. There were people on the course from all over the country, so maybe Avon and Somerset insist on you doing the course in the area the offence was committed.
Actually enjoyed the course, and learnt a bit! 1998 300TDi Auto Disco, never to be forgotten.
