Hand brake shoes

Anyone changed the hand brake shoes on a TD4? Is it a difficult job? Any tips on changing the shoes? Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

easy job just takes the discs off. might need to slacken off the adjuster in order to pull disc off shoes. (little hole in hub face with a rubber bung)

LR genuine £100 for shoes, quality copies approx £40, you may need adjusters and wont know until you have the brakes in bits (I didnt), Try and get some from your dealer sale or return. You need some grease to smear the ends of the shoes, LR shoes come with a small sachet not sure about non genuines.

I had my discs off for new rear discs/pads when I discovered the need for new handbrake, non genuines much cheaper at local motor factor but 2 day order time, so had to buy genuines at inflated cost Evil or Very Mad

when fitted do a few mild emergency stops with handbrake to bed shoes in or drive with handbrake slightly on. there is a correct procedure I think Alex once posted this.

probably good to fit discs /pads at same time, inner face of handbrake drum might be worn/corroded and this is built into the disc. motor factor should do discs/pads for approx £80 mine were ferodo.

I seem to think we needs a torq star socket bit to strip down the hub I forget At work

Officially you also need new caliper retaining bolts but I used Locktite on the originals. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

+1 on what Dunkley201 said. The partsman at my local main dealer does not keep the bolts in stock as he said he never gets asked for them by the workshop! John

CG, I think you will find that the bolts that come with the pads are the small ones that fix the calliper slider to the backplate (I had them with my new pads). The manual also says to replace the backplate fixing bolts which are the ones I think we are talking about. John
