How do o fix power fold mirror after white van clipped me

Help ! Driving through some lanes a white van hogging the road
Clipped the drivers slide mirror. The casing is fine and the movement
But upon locking it does not fold in. Is it repairable ?

I assume he did not stop (a safe assumption for white van man) and so you will need to pay for it yourself or claim for it. Do you have protected NCD?

Ring your dealer and get a quote so at least that will give you a figure to start with. A car so new would be best repaired by LR dealer if possible. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Probably just knocked it out of its knuckle, I had this once, when the other side is folded push it folded by hand and it then sorts itself out, mine did anyway.

They didn't stop Censored Thing is its
Ok apart from the locking movement. The casing is
Fine and the internal swivel is fine. So it grates me to
Go thru the insurance route.

When I lock the car the mirror moves 1/3 of the way
Then stops? I've pushed it fully open and fully closed and the
Same.

Any guesstimate on cost from a dealer ?

Open the mirror as far as you can, by hand, as if you were trying to clean the mirror only. Don't worry, you wont break it although it takes a bit of force.
Then try locking the doors, you may have try more than once and with any luck it should revert back to it's original position.
Then try locking /unlocking the doors again. You may have to manually pull the mirror back, but hopefully the ball should go back into the socket.
An easy fix for the dealer if you can't do it yourself Thumbs Up

Thanks I'll try that pegleg.

I did open it to the max, but put it back before locking. I'll leave it open as you suggest.

Is it possible to get to the mechanism ?

Yes, by pulling the mirror off.
I would'nt recommend it in case it breaks, ouch.
The dealers do it reguarly.

Try pulling the mirror casing beyond the normal open position. You'll think you are breaking it, but it should pull the ball and socket together. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

new mirror is approx £110 probably cheaper than insurance excess, assume it wont mend of course, fitting instructions are on this forum somewhere, takes approx 1 hour.

I had a complete new power fold wing mirror complete with coloured mirror cap fitted by LR when a coach bashed mine a couple of years ago - cost about £350. If you dont have coloured mirror caps I reckon you can knock about £100 off that figure. If you do have coloured caps and it isnt damaged you will still need a new one as they are glued on and cannot be removed - not that I have tried though!
