Ever wish you'd not started something

I'm fed up. We have been having a little extension done to the side of the house to make me a bigger utility room. Sounds simple. It should be done by now but isn't.

First delay was the components for the roof came at the wrong size and had to go back and we had to wait for nearly 2 weeks for those to come so the plumber and electricican got put back.

Today we were supposed to be having a simple boiler move. It's an old boiler but British Gas service it yearly and told us that there was no need to change it as it was fine. So today comes and he starts having a look around and the blumming copper water tank has a leak at the bottom and needs changing.
Do i want a new tank at £800 or a new combi boiler for double the price? He has recommended the combi as we may aswell have the installation now while we are at the breezeblock stage rather than in my newly plastered utility if the existing boiler conks out. The heating is off now and if i have a tank, it will be on tomorrow or a new combi, the heating will be on by Saturday night. I'm so fed up.

It seems everything we touch in this house uncovers another problem.

I'm beginning to wish i'd not bothered asking for a bigger utility and made do with my tiny one.
Could have put the blumming money towards a new Land Rover

My builder has gone for the boiler while the plumber has started ripping things out. Can i come and stay at one of your houses? I'm very well behaved and house-trained Sad 59 TD4e XS in galway green

Annie my place is empty right now as I am staying with my lady who has just come out of hospital, if you could do a little light dusting that would be a help. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

Annie that seems an awful lot of money for a hot water tank.
I had mine changed a couple of years ago for an 1800x450 (was tired of having to wait for hot water after everybody else had used it) which was less than half that supplied and fitted.
I know copper has gone up but not by that much. 2015 BMW

Yes...building projects always seem to take on an extended life of their own and wind up costing more. Mind you we are good at this in this country...(Wembley Stadium etc.etc) nothing comes in on budget! And builders laying logs in your own privvy....I am trying not to think about it Shocked

However, my opinion is go for the combi. There have moved on from the early models and produce plenty of hot water. If at all worried about it go for a combi with a buffer tank in it. John

Laying logs in my privvy made me Rolling with laughter

I rang my husband who was on a train and due in a meeting (the last thing he wanted to talk about was boilers and logs). We ended up opting for the combi. May aswell have the mess now while we are at the breezeblock stage.

The plumber is doing my head in already. I thought that our heating would be off just for a few hours so i had it on full blast this morning to warm the house through and then thought it will be fine til later. We are now having the heating off til Saturday and the plumber has every door wide open. I will definitely be glad when he has done his job and gone. 59 TD4e XS in galway green

We had to have the garage roof redone a couple of years ago, builders mate took an almighty dump in our bog (and we are peasants and can only afford a one bog house), made the house smell right through. Worrying thing was that I had used the toilet an hour before and used the last of the loo roll and forgot to put a new one out - obviously he never checked before he deposited his load. I wonder how he wiped his arse???? Shocked

Thankfully the hand towel wasnt used!!! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Hi Annie

a word of warning with the combi - I know a few on here have had problems in cold weather.

Make sure the overflow / expansion pipe is well lagged - oftent hese get iced up in really cold weather and the boiler shuts off - better doing it now while you have chance. If its possible gte it to drain inside rather than out.

Good luck with the work.
