Oil level over Max should i drain it

Hi Just bought a used FL2 diesel and the oil level is about 8-10mm above the maximum mark on the dip stick. Should i drain some out?
If yes then whats the best way as i understand these have no canister oil filter.
Have done about 200 miles so far like this, would any damage have been done?
Cheers

IMHO that's too much over, with the oil warm but not hot how about a clear plastic tube down the dip stick with about an extra 60 cm showing. Suck until you see the oil through the tube and with your thumb over the tube end to make a vacuum, withdraw the other end from the dipstick and put the tube into an old container. Might take loads of goes but removing the sump plug will just make a mess.
Idea Ask Mrs Kempy if she will do it as she might be more experience Shocked (Assuming she drinks her cocktails with a straw Very Happy )

Great idea i could use a syringe with a tube. Did not want to remove sump plug.
Unfortunately mrs kempy might not be experienced enough since getting a band on her finger.
But what a chat up line that idea could be.

Yes you should definitely get the levl down to the MAX mark as there is a risk of the crankshaft hitting the surface of the oil in the sump which could cuase engine damage

Slightly over the mark wont hurt as long as you dont fill it until it comes out of the filler lol. As the last suggests, yes it could obstruct the counter balance weights of the crank shaft causing engine damage but lets get real here slightly over wont hurt but if you want to remove some there are suction pumps you can buy to do it.
Its worth bearing in mind if you want to chang the oil your self you still need to remove the sump plug as you will not be able to remove all the oil due to the shape of the dipstick tube.

I've sucked excess oil out of mine twice after services.

I use a pump from a liquid soap bottle with a length of clear plastic tube attached and just pump it out of the dipstick hole into a container.

Oil excess could also stem from oil dilution with diesel fuel due to frequent DPF regeneration attempts, if you have a DPF on your car.. Wink

Begining to realise that what appears to be a simple problem can usually be put down to something much worst.

The syringe and aquarium tube method has worked a treat.
Thanks
